Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Irene Tarpley of Many; a son, John E. Tarpley, Jr.; four daughters, Mrs. Vaughnita Peters of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Rena Mae Dartez of Lake Charles, Mrs. Connie Scott of Shreveport, and Mrs. Donnie Wilson of Selma, Calif.; three step daughters, Mrs. Rose Tarpley of Many, Mrs. Dorothy Wheeler of Pineville, and Mrs. Alice Parker of Ft. Benning, Ga.; three brothers, Robert Tarpley, and Allen Tarpley, both of Many, and Chancey Tarpley of Homer; 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Ft. Jesup Baptist Church on Thursday, June 13, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Loyd Sowers officiated. Burial was in Fenders Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Willie Bell, Bobby Tarpley, Elkton Brumley, Sam Tarpley, Floyd Tarpley, and Sammie Mitchell.
