Officiating was Father Paul Bigger, Dr. William T. Crosby, and the Rev. George Harbuck. Burial was at Mansfield Cemetery. Mr. Valentine passed away Tuesday, March 21, 1989, at the DeSoto General Hospital in Mansfield, following a length illness. He was a native of Pleasant Hill, La., and had lived in Mansfield since 1951. Mr. Valentine was a member of the Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, where he was presently on the vestry, and had served as Junior Warden of the church for many years. He was a graduate of Northwestern State College in 1950. He was president of Valentine Ready Mix, Inc. of Mansfield. Mr. Valentine was formerly a member of the Mansfield Jaycees, where he had served as President and Vice President. He was a member, and past board member of the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Valentine had been a member of the Mansfield City Council for the past 20 years. He was currently Police and Fire Commissioner, and a member of the DeSoto Parish Cattlemen's Association. Mr. Valentine was on the Board of Directors of Western Corridor of Louisiana, and the DeSoto Parish Airport Commission. He was a past member of the board of the DeSoto Parish Improvement Committee, and Louisiana High Schools Athletic Referee Association. Mr. Valentine was a full member of the DeSoto Parish Wildlife and Fisheries Association. He is survived by his wife, Billie M. Valentine of Mansfield; his mother, Mrs. Evelyn S. Valentine of Mansfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Cheryl Rives, and Judson C. and Cheryl Rives of Mansfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Beth and James R. Adams of Houma, La.; one brother and sister-in-law, Kermie and Celeste Valentine of Mansfield; and seven grandchildren. Pallbearers were Rhonny Valentine, J. D. "Bubba" Locke, Harold Cornett, Don English, L. T. Harris, C. E. "Rusty" Williams, George Aseff, and Hines Rogers Jr. Honorary pallbearers included Mansfield City Council, Mansfield Police Department, Mansfield Fire Department, DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office, and the staff doctors of DeSoto General Hospital, Henry Bedsole, and Wiley Heard. Memorials may be made to the Christ Memorial Episcopal Church.
