VanVliet Services for Mrs. Hazel Whatley VanVliet, 58, of Shreveport, were at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9, at Rose-Neath's Marshall St. Chapel. The Rev. Bill Stowell, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and the Rev. Nell Gass, pastor of Life Tabernacle, officiated. Burial was in Centuries Memorial Park. She died Friday, Nov. 6, at Willis-Knighton Medical Center, following a long illness. Mrs. VanVliet, born in Marthaville, and a resident of Shreveport most of her life, was a retired Cafeteria Cashier at Willis-Knighton Medical Center. She was Baptist. Mrs. VanVliet is survived by her husband, Earl T. VanVliet of Shreveport; four sons, Mike Whatley, Kenneth VanVliet, and Bill Whatley, all of Shreveport, and Bruce Whatley of Jackson, Miss.; daughter Catherine Wilson of Memphis, Tenn.; four sisters, Natalie Self of Killeen, Tex., Iola Horn of Shreveport, Dilly Simpson of Many, and Audrey Walter of San Francisco, Calif.; brother, Emmett Horn, Jr. of Lafayette, La.; and nine grandchildren. Family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
