Vansickle A 20 year old Hemphill, Tex. man was the 8th fatality in Sabine Parish for 1980. Killed in a one vehicle wreck on Highway 6, three miles west of Many at 10:50 p.m., Friday night, Aug. 22, was Brian R. Vansickle. Vansickle, who was driving a 1979 Ford pick up, was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed, when he lost control of the vehicle, according to a spokesman for the Louisiana State Police, Troop H. Investigating the accident was Trooper Guy Singletary. Trooper Singletary pointed out that the vehicle left the roadway on the right side, traveling down the shoulder for 272' before striking a mailbox and produce sign at a local business. The vehicle continued on for another 234', before crashing into a fence. Evidence at the scene showed that the truck flipped numerous times before coming to a stop. The driver was thrown from the vehicle. Dr. Gene Poimboeuf, Sabine Parish Coroner, pronounced the youth dead at the scene. He reportedly suffered from a broken neck. The body was transported to Warren Meadows Funeral Home by Florien Rescue Service. Trooper Singletary pointed out that the battery from the truck was discovered some 409' from the truck. The vehicle, which was totaled, was removed to Thomas Wrecking Yard.
