Vandegaer 6 Jun 1942 - Mrs. W. H. Vandegaer was buried from St. John's church, where a solemn requiem mass was sung for the repose of her soul. Rev. J. A. Benoit was celebrant of the mass, Rev. J. C. Vandegaer of Lake Providence served as deacon, , Rev. M. F. Walsh of St. Theresa's church, Shreveport, served as sub-deacon, and Rev. M. L. Plauche, former pastor here, now of Hesmer, as master of ceremonies. Rev. J. C. Vandegaer preached and Rt. Rev. Monsignor F. Van Haver of Holy Trinity church, Shreveport, an old friend of the family, pronounced the benediction and presided at the grave. St. John's Choir chanted the tradition requiem mass, in use in the church for seven hundred years. Mother M. Eugenia, superior of the Daughters of the Cross of Shreveport, of which Sister Stanilaus, daughter of Mrs. Vandegaer, is a member, attended the funeral with other sisters. Surviving are the husband, W. H. Vandegaer, one son, Leo, of McAllen, Texas; four daughters, Mrs. W. R. Robinson, Mrs. J. S. Pickett, Miss Inez Hatcher of Many and Sister Stanislaus of Shreveport; step son and daughter J. B. and Sarah Vandegaer, of Many; one brother, Dr. T. L. Abington, Oakdale; half-brother, J. M. Abington, Many; half-sister, Mrs A. S. Rains, Zwolle; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were: J. J. Blake, J. M. Jordan, Jack Lucius, D. C. Abington. J. R. Robinson and J. M. Belisle. Interment was in St. John's cemetery under the direction of Dennis-Green funeral home. Mrs. Vandegaer, age 74 years, passed away in the family home Monday night at nine p.m., having been in ill health for a long period. The love and esteem was attested by the profuse floral offerings. Mrs. Vandegaer will be greatly missed by her many friends.
