All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Sarah Anne Vandegaer (Photo) Sarah Anne Vandegaer, daughter of Mary Belle Buvens Vandegaer, was born in Many, July 6, 1902. She was preceded in death by her father, March 5, 1947, and mother on November 26, 1904. Miss Vandegaer died Thursday, June 11. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 13, at St. John Catholic Church in Many, with interment following at St. John Catholic Church Cemetery. Father Edward P. Buvens, and Father William H. Carey officiated. In 1921, she graduated from St. John's Academy, Many, a Catholic private school staffed by Sisters of Divine Providence from Our Lady of the Lake College, San Antonio, Texas. Immediately after graduation, she went to the office of her father, W. H. Vandegaer, Abstracter. He had previously been Sabine Parish Tax Assessor for 16 years. In 1933, a partnership was formed with him, under the title of Vandegaer and Vandegaer Abstracters. In 1947, after the death of her father, she became sole owner of the company, and the name was then changed to Vandegaer Abstract Company. She remained with the company after selling it in 1965, and retired in 1982, after having been a Land Title Abstracter, and Notary Public for 60 years. Miss Vandegaer was the granddaughter of John Baptiste Vandegaer, who arrived from Belgium in 1855, and settled in Sabine Parish in 1859. He married Maria Buvens (who arrived in America in 1837), and built the home in which Miss Vandegaer resided. Miss Vandegaer was a member of St. John's Altar Society, the American Legion Auxiliary, and a charter member of the Many Chamber of Commerce. She has been a lifelong member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church. Miss Vandegaer is survived by her sister-in-law, Johnnie Belle Vandegaer, widow of her brother, J. B. Vandegaer, and numerous relatives and friends. Warren Meadows, Many, La.
