Verges, 54, died Saturday, July 8, at 4:44 p.m., at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Funeral services were held Monday, July 10, at 3:30 p.m., at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, with Msgr. Frey officiating. Burial was in the Greenoaks Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of the Welsh Funeral Home of Baton Rouge. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Polly Verges; three daughters, Mrs. Donald L. Barron of Monroe; Emily Claire Verges of New Orleans, and Carol Anne Verges of Baton Rouge; two sons, Leonard Paul Verges of New Orleans, and Roy Daniel Verges of Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Verges. Pallbearers were Milton Harrison, Dick Herrell, Hank Breeser, Gus Schlerieber, Ted Hardoway, John Roberts, Harold Counce, and Guyton Watkin. Mr. Verges was a native of New Orleans, and a resident of Baton Rouge. He was a senior engineer at Exxon Chemical Co., and a U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II. A member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, he served as scout master, and commissioner of Troop 12 of Our Lady of Mercy Home and School Association; past president of the Tulane Alumni Association, and the Tulane Green Wave Club; past president and member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish Council; a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity; the Sierra Club, and the Catholic High Men's Club. His widow, Mrs. Polly Verges, is the former Pauline Ebarb, daughter of Mrs. Paul Ebarb, and the late Paul Ebarb of Zwolle. She is well known, and has many friends in Sabine Parish.
