He was a merchant marine. Funeral services were held in the Church of Immaculate Conception at 10 a.m., Oct. 25, with the Rev. Beckers officiating. Burial was in the Fern Park Cemetery in Natchitoches, under the direction of the First National Funeral Home. Survivors include his father, Abram Vercher Sr. of Natchotoches; two brothers, Roy Vercher of Pineville, and Morris J. Vercher of Many; five sisters, Mrs. Emma Thomasee of Natchotiches, Mrs. Maybel McRae of Mansfield, Mrs. Lelia Bynog of Mansfield, Mrs. Lous Patterson of New Orleans, and Miss Evelyn R. Vercher of New Orleans.
