Webb, 83, lost a valiant battle with cancer at Garden Park Nursing Home in Shreveport, Friday, Aug. 25, 2000. She was born Sept. 30, 1916, in Mooringsport, to James T. and Ida E. Martin. Memorial services were conducted by pastor Irvin Beaudreaux at Pinecroft Baptist Church in Shreveport, followed by interment in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Many. Mrs. Webb was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Burnice; two sisters, Sylverine Johnson, and Margarete Martin; and grandson Greg Sheffield. Those left to morn her home-going are daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Ray Thomas, Shreveport, and Deanna and Allen Sheffield of Hardin, Texas; grandchildren, Cheryl Thomas Young and husband Don, Monty Thomas and April Thomas McDaniel, all of Shreveport, and Beth Sheffield Redwine and husband, Bill of Magnolia, Texas; brothers James Estes Martin and wife Minnie of Many, and Arnold Martin and wife Alice of Irvin, Texas; a special nephew, Arden Johnson and wife Sonya of Shreveport; 11 great grandchildren; and a host of other brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. The Webbs were educated and married in Many, and their two daughters were born in Many, but the last 50-plus years were spent living and building relationships in Shreveport, where Webb, a charter member of Pinecroft Baptist Church, taught Sunday School, Missions, and Vacation Bible School until just a few months ago. She was a Caddo Parish Election official for over 50 years. Her example will live on through the many lives she has touched.
