Webb In a plane crash a short distance from Hart Airport last Saturday night, about 7 p.m., the pilot, E. N. Webb of Mark, Miss., was trapped in the wreckage and burned to death. The twin engine Cessna T50 was making its final approach to the landing strip, when it struck the tree tops in this densely wooded section, a mile south of town. The plane burst into flames upon impact. Wreckage was scattered over the area. Bob Roe, age 23, of Memphis, Tenn., was thrown clear of the plane when it crashed, and crawled about 75 feet to safety, before the plane caught fire. Roe, who sustained a broken leg and other severe injuries, told Sheriff T. M. Phillips from his hospital bed that the plane's right engine developed trouble about 30 miles from Many, and the pilot decided to land in Many. The pilot circled the town to locate the airstrip, and make his landing approach. Thirty seconds before the crash, Roe said the plane's left engine began to lose power. By the time citizens got to the plane, they were unable to get close, on account of the intense heat. The remains of Webb were removed about 10 p.m. Early arrivals at the scene told of seeing the pilot entangled in the wreckage. On account of the wooded area, the Many Fire Department could not reach the wreckage. Roe was removed to the Fraser Sanitarium for treatment, later taken to the Veterans Hospital at Shreveport. The remains of Webb was claimed by his father, and taken to Nashville, Tenn. For burial.
