All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Raymond West Funeral services for Raymond Thomas West, 84, of Many were hosted at the Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, March 16 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Joe Ratcliff, former pastor of Many's First Baptist Church, and the present pastor, Dr. Ed Scott, officiated at the funeral service, which featured music by Miss Tiffeni Warmack, soloist. Interment followed at the Many Cemetery. Pallbearers were Edwin Teal, Danny Warmack, Wayne Garner, Chip Rademacher, B. G. Hillman and Paul Gewin. Mr. West is survived by his widow, Frances West of Many; four daughters, Betty Barbara West of Westwego, Marilyn Meyers and husband, Derrell, of Many, Carol Rademacher and husband. Chip, of Metairie, and Wendy West of Jefferson; three grandchildren, Thomas Meyers of Simpson and Betty Pettus and Raymond Locantro, both of Metairie; a great-grandson, Tyier Meyers of Simpson; two nephews and one niece; and a host of friends. Mr. West was born July 31, 1915 in Culioke, Texas to Arthur and Betty West. He attended schools in Ouachita Parish and was a graduate .of. Jefferson Military College in Washington, Mississipi. He was honored by being the first in the history of the school to receive a direct commission as First Lieutenant. After graduation, he returned to the college as commander of the cadets. In June 1942, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served overseas in the Middle East with Air Transport Command, Cairo, Egypt. During his service, he made scheduled runs to all parts of Africa, Europe and Asia. He was honorably discharged Dec., 1946. Following his stint in the military, Mr. West returned to Monroe, where he met and married the former Frances Bryant. The couple moved to Many which they deemed a good town in which to raise a family in 1958. Shortly thereafter, he went to work for Warren Meadows Funeral Home. During his 32-career at the local funeral home, Mr. West worked with hundreds of bereaved families. His compassion and kindnesses will be remembered by many. Known for his meticulous dress and attention to detail, Mr. West was a warm and caring man who made a difference in the lives of many people. He led a quiet and simple life. Eight years ago, after retirement, he became a resident of IHS North in Many. He died on Tuesday, March 14 at Sabine Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
