Ben West were held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 1993, in the Hixson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Lowell Riechardt, and Rev. Wallace Palmer officiating. Burial will be in the Self Cemetery in Leesville, La. Mr. West, 101, of Leesville, passed away January 21, 1993, in the Byrd Regional Hospital. He was born in Vernon Parish, La. He was a member of the Cold Springs Baptist Church for the past 70 years, a member of the Old Anacoco Masonic Lodge #147. He was the second oldest in membership, and the third oldest in age in the state of Louisiana. He was a member of the WWI Veterans Association, and was the oldest WWI Veteran in Vernon Parish. He is survived by three sons, Van O. West of Leesville, La., Ben D. West of Pitkin, La., Wayne West of Leesville, La.; three daughters, Guinell Smart of Leesville, La., Magda McCormick of Many, La., Mickey Penton of Sulphur, La.; one sister, Ann Tanner of Monroe, La.; thirteen grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Pallbearers were Van "Bimbo" West, Johnny West, Ben H. West, Darb West, Tracy McCormick, and John Smart. Family requests that donations or memorials be made to the Old Anacoco Masonic Lodge #147, or the Masonic Children's Home in Alexandria, or a charity of their choice.
