Wistner Graveside services for Vernon Owen Wistner, were conducted at Centuries Memorial Cemetery, Tuesday, February 26, at 2 p.m. Mr. Wistner, 74, died Saturday, February 23, at Pierremont Manor, following a long illness. Officiating was Rev. Bill McDonald, pastor of Kings Highway Christian Church, assisted by Mr. Wistner's grand niece, the Rev. Ramona Lynn Bethley, Minister of Christian Education, Central Christian Church. A resident of Shreveport, a year, he was a native of Port Arthur, Texas, where he was reared and educated. He was a graduate of Chicago Art Institute, and the Famous Artist Schools of Connecticut. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the Allied Occupation of the Pacific, following Pearl Harbor. After his discharge from the Army, he was employed as an accountant for Meacham Oil Co., in Houston, Texas. He was predeceased by his parents, Vernon J. Wistner, Port Arthur City Attorney for many years, and Blanche Fish Wistner; and a sister, Ruth W. Durham Renfroe of Longview, Texas. Survivors are a sister, Viola W. Carruth of Shreveport; a brother, Roger Paul Wistner of Houston, Texas; nieces, Elizabeth Carruth Walker of Shreveport; Alice Lynn Carruth Jenkins of Cheverly, Md., Sandra Wistner Hodges of Alvin, Texas; nephews, Harold R. Durham of Plano, Texas, and Michael V. Durham of Huntsville, Texas; and a number of grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
