Services for Chaplain Colonel James Walter White Jr., Ret., 54, were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 5, 1992, at Minden Presbyterian Church. Officiating was Rev. Floyd R. Whatley, Chaplain Col. Henry L. Hunt, and Rev. Joe T. Sheeler. Burial was in Minden Cemetery, under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Minden, La. Chaplain White died Monday, March 2, 1992, at his residence, after a sudden illness. He was born in Minden, La., was a former resident of Leesville, La., and had been a resident of Minden, La., for the past three years. Chaplain White was a member of the Minden Presbyterian Church, and of the Presbytery of the Pines. During his 23 years of service, he was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, and served in Vietnam. He also served in the 1st Armored Division, as an assistant Division Chaplain for the 5th Infantry Division at Ft. Polk, La., past Chaplain at the National Training Center at Ft. Irwin, Calif., and retired as Installation Staff Chaplain at Ft. Polk, La. In May of 1989. His decorations include the following; Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, with Palm. Chaplain White completed the Chaplain Officer Basic Course, Airborne Training School, Chaplain Advanced Course, and Command General Staff College. Survivors include his lifelong friend, Sue G. White of Many, La.; son James Walter White III of Navarre, Fla.; daughter, Suzanne White of Minden, La.; and parents, Mr. And Mrs. J. Walter White Sr. Pallbearers were military. Honorary pallbearers were the Session of the Minden Presbyterian Church. Dr. Ed Brown, Dan P. Logan Jr., Rogers Reeves, Col. Dan Prather, August Hocevar, and Billy Kalpakis.
