Preston Whatley, 67, of the Marthaville community in Natchitoches Parish, were at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, at the Beulah Methodist Church at Marthaville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Whatley died at 6:40 p.m., Monday, at Schumpert Medical Center, after a long illness. He was a Natchitoches Parish cattleman, and a former longtime Natchitoches Parish School Board employee. He was a native of Marthaville, and a deacon in the Union Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Whatley was a member of Ajax Lodge 325 F&AM, and the Natchitoches Parish Cattlemen's Association. He had been associated with the Jack Lent Oil Co. of Natchitoches. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Genelle McCartney Whatley; two daughters, Mrs. Ed Willey, and Mrs. Sally W. Shaw of Shreveport; a brother, Don Whatley of Ore City, Tex.; three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Austin Blankenship Sr. of Natchitoches, Mrs. W. H. Byrd of Baton Rouge, and Mrs. Bruce Walker of Longview, Tex.; and two grandchildren.
