Whatley Effie Downs Whatley, 71, died Thursday night, Nov. 23, in a local hospital. Services were Saturday at 2 p.m., in Hickory Grove Methodist Church, with the Rev. J. D. McNeal officiating. Burial was in the Bethany Cemetery, under the direction of the Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Survivors include a stepmother, Winnie Bimer of Bentley; five daughters, Alice Durr, Lela Durr, and Janelle Berly, all of Marthaville, Retha Lauw of Robeline, and Alma Jean Glaspie of Hornbeck; six sisters, Nonie Lofton, and Loretta Rambin, both of Natchitoches, Mary Alice Murrary, and Lucille Carnline, both of Robeline, Ellen Lewis of Lafayette, and Esther Campbell of Belmont; seven brothers, Elmer Shoemaker, Joe Shoemaker, and Luther Shoemaker, all of Robeline, J. C. Shoemaker, and Julius Shoemaker, both of Coushatta, and Wiley Shoemaker of Texas, and Hoyt Shoemaker of Hobbs, N. M.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
