All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mrs. Ethel Bates Whitley Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Bates Whitley, 92, of Provencal, were held at 2 p.m., August 16, 1995, at Provencal United Methodist Church of Provencal. Officiating were the Rev.'s James Moore, Kevin Moss, and Don Davis. Interment was in Provencal Cemetery, under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home of Natchitoches. Mrs. Whitley died Sunday, August 13, 1995, at Evangeline of Natchitoches Nursing Home. Mrs. Whitley was a native and resident of Provencal, and resided at the Evangeline Nursing Home for the past 5 years. She was known to her family as "Aunt Ethel", lived and worked in Natchitoches and Sabine parishes as a teacher, social worker, and a store clerk. She was widowed by her husband, Jack Whitley of Robeline. They owned and operated "Whitley Grocery and Market" for many years. Survivors are one son, Jean Whitley of Orange, Texas; one daughter, Marjorie Harvey of Albuquerque, N. M.; one brother, Martel "Bill" Bates of Provencal; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers were Wade Stephens, Robbie Dupree, Duane Bates, John Moore Jr., Marty Moss, and Stan Harvey Jr.
