They went to the Toledo Bend cleared area near Little Flock. Tate told Brumley that Walker was about 200 yards from him the last time he saw him. He said Walker was running toward a thicket in a crouched position. Tate heard the 12 gauge double barrel shotgun go off, and assumed Walker had shot at doves. Tate went on about his own hunting, and then returned to the car approximately an hour later. He said he called Walker several times and received no answer. Assuming that Walker decided to go home, Tate left and went by Walker's home. He found Walker had not been there since the boys left to go hunting. Tate went back to where the boys had been hunting, and called Walker again. Again, getting no answer, he went to the thicket where he had last seen Walker. He found the teenager lying on the ground, with the gun against his chest. Tate said he told Walker to get up and come on, to stop fooling around. Tate said when Walker did not move, he went on up to the boy and found he was dead. Tate immediately reported the accident, and the Rev. Glaspie of Little Flock phoned the Sheriff's Department. Tate then went back to the scene of the accident, and stayed with Walker until the ambulance, coroner, and Deputy Brumley arrived. Dr. N. U. Booker, coroner, pronounced Walker dead. The shot went through his liver. Jarrel is the son of Mrs. Opal Corley. His stepfather is Earnest Corley of Little Flock. Van Tate's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Tate. Jarrell was a senior at Negreet High School, and was a very popular student among his classmates. He would have been one of the starting five on the basketball team this year, since he was an outstanding basketball player. He was also a Negreet track star. Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Little Flock Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Jenkins, and the Rev. Richard Glespie officiating. Burial is to be in Little Flock Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home of Many. Survivors, besides his mother and stepfather, are two brothers, Henry Franklin Walker of Port Neches, Tex., and David Allen Walker of Many; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Green Walker of Many.
