Walker, Jr. (Photo) Word was received here Saturday, that a Sabine Parish native received fatal wounds as a result of small arms fire, while engaged in combat in Viet Nam, Thursday, Aug. 25. Dead is Pfc. J. C. Walker Jr., 21. Pfc. Walker was graduated from Negreet High School, and inducted into the Army last October. He took basic and special training for Viet Nam at Fort Polk. On March 23, he was taken to Shreveport en route to the war. Members of his family received word of his death Saturday, via telephone, and then on Sunday, they received a telegram about it. They talked with an official in Washington, D. C., Monday night, and were told that Pfc. Walker's body should arrive in Many by Friday. Warren Meadows Funeral Home of Many will be in charge of the arrangements, which are incomplete until the body arrives. Survivors include his father, J. C. Walker Sr. of Jasper, Tex.; his mother, Mrs. Doris Walker of Hemphill, Tex.; two brothers, Benny Walker of Many, and Donnie Walker of Hemphill; three sisters, Mrs. Gordon Oxley, Mrs. Tommy Cryer, and Mrs. Charles Pilcher, all of Many; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. May Armstrong of Florien.
