Walker, Jr. A 61 year old Shreveport insurance man was killed Friday afternoon, Feb. 28, when his boat struck a blunt object on Toledo Bend Lake. According to Sabine Parish Sheriff George R. Cook, Ben W. Walker Jr. was thrown from his bass boat, which was propelled by a 115 hp Mercury motor. "The boat ran over Walker, cutting his leg, hip, and back," Cook said. The Sheriff's Dept. received a call concerning the mishap at 5:15 p.m., from the Flying Bridge Marina. Units were dispatched to the scene. Two fishermen close by, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Morler Jr. of Holden, dragged Walker from the water, and brought him to the landing. He was taken to Fraser Hospital via ambulance, but was pronounced dead on arrival. Walker, a native of Lewisville, Ark., had resided in Shreveport for 38 years. He was employed by Aetna Insurance Co. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. H. Gilbert Walker; a son; a daughter; a sister; a brother; and one granddaughter.
