The body lay in state at Warren Meadows Chapel until 5 p.m., Friday, and was then taken to his home, where it remained until service time at 11 a.m., Saturday. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 13, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Earl Marr, the Rev. J. C. Edwards, and the Rev. Avon Cavanaugh officiating. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home of Many. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Velma Weldon of Florien; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Russell of New Orleans, and Mrs. Bonita Arthur of Florien; two brothers, Ira Weldon, and Milton Weldon, both of Florien; three sisters, Mrs. Vernie Thaxton of Florien, Mrs. Minnie Viddler of Burney, Calif., and Mrs. Bertie Taylor of Shreveport; and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were Charlie Ray Thaxton, Gerald Thaxton, Jimmy Don Weldon, Truett Weldon, Sammy Taylor, and Jarvis Hardcastle. Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
