All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Roland Truett Walden Roland Truett Walden, 58, of Many, died at 9:05 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 5, in the Veteran's Hospital in Shreveport, following an extended illness. Mr. Walden was a Sabine Parish Deputy Sheriff for approximately 14 years, serving under the administration of Sheriff Harold Sandel, and Sheriff George R. Cook. In the fall of 1971, he resigned his commission, and ran for sheriff himself, against both Sandel and Cook. He lost in the primary. During his years at the Sheriff's Dept. Mr. Walden patrolled, and served as a civil deputy. A veteran of World war II, Mr. Walden enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942, and was honorably discharged in 1945, after having served in New Zealand, and Guadalcanal, among other places. He was awarded the APO Ribbon with three battle stars, and numerous other medals during his stint in the Marines. Survivors include one son, Tom Walden of Calif.; three daughters, Sharon Fike of Waynesboro, Miss., Susan Lockwood of Shreveport, and Robin Lawrence of Many; his mother, Mrs. Oda Walden of Many; one sister, Hazel Salisbury of Stonewall; and several grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m., in Warren Meadows Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. David H. Chapman, and Rev. M. J. Salisbury. Burial will be in the Many Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be members of the Sabine Parish Sheriff Dept.
