Williams 31 Jul 1959 - Funeral services for Mrs. J. D. Williams were held at the First Baptist church, Many, Sunday, July 26, at 3:30 p.m., with Rev. W. H. Rose officiating. Born in Crosbyville, Fairfield County, S. C. in 1874, Mrs. Williams was a Many resident for about 60 years. She died at her home Saturday. Before her marriage to the late Joseph Denning Williams, she was Olla Tetts. She was a graduate of the Louisiana State Normal College, as it was then known, and was a school teacher. During the greater part of her life time, she took active part in community and church affairs. Several years ago she was presented a plaque in recognition for more than 25 years of service as parish chairman of The Salvation Army. Mrs. Williams also served many years as parish chairman of the La. Tuberculosis Associating Christmas Seal Drive, and was an active member of the First Baptist church where she taught Sunday school class for over half a century. The organizations with which she was affiliated include the Eastern Star, The United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Williams was reporter for the Social and Personal Column of The Sabine Index for many years. Mrs. Williams operated a hardware store in Many until her retirement at the age of 82. She is survived by four daughters; Mrs. Wilma Leopold, Mrs. Wilba Meharg, Mrs. Jo Anna Boyens, and Mrs. Dorothy Morrow, all of Many; one brother, W. F. Tetts of Bay City, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Stille of Ruston and Mrs. Eunice Lunt of Fort Worth, Texas; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers were Grady McCarter of Shreveport, J. B. Vandegaer, O. E. Williams, Milton Belisle, C. L. Massingill, C. D. Worsham, James P. Stewart and T. M. Phillips. Interment was in the Many cemetery under the direction of Warren Funeral home.
