All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mr. Kenneth Merald Williams Mr. Kenneth Merald Williams, 85, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Greenville Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born May 19, 1915, in Florien, and he was son of the late Benjamin Lightfoot, and Armbus Corley Williams. Predeceased by five sisters; and one brother. Services were held at the First Baptist Church of Greenville, N. C., with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Williams was a 1937 graduate of Northwestern State University in Louisiana. He was a high school teacher, and basketball coach, before enlisting in the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1941. He became a flight instructor, and later a squadron commander, before leaving active duty as a major in 1945. Following military service, he joined Commercial Credit Company in Asheville, N. C., later transferring to Greenville, N. C., where in 1957, he founded Kent Mobile Home Sales, and was co-founder of Kent-Gault Mobil Homes. He became a principal in New South Investment Company, and in 1976, he joined the Litchfield Company of South Carolina, and remained there until retirement in 1989. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Alwayne DeLozier Williams; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Asa M. Gray, and Nancy and Timothy D. Calnon, all of Greenville; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth M. Williams Jr., and Stefanie Z. Williams of Mount Pleasant; and nine grandchildren, Jason, Josh, and Caroline Gray, Meg, and Tee Calnon, and Virginia, Christina, Amanda, and Kent (III) Williams. Mr. Williams was the uncle of Betty Jean Dees, Ross, David, and Bill Williams. And others that live in Sabine Parish.
