Williams of Pleasant Hill was pronounced dead on arrival at the Pleasant Hill Hospital by Coroner, Dr. Gene Poimboeuf on Sunday, Feb. 1, at 2:20 p.m., according to La. State Trooper Frankie D. Bozeman. Young Williams was pedaling his bicycle out of a private driveway on the Pleasant Hill - Old Pelican Road, when he was struck by a 1971 Ford driven by Lydia K. Matthews, 15, of Pleasant Hill. Impact occurred when the child's bike and the left front bumper of the car collided. The child was thrown approximately 33 feet, according to Trooper Bozeman. Following an investigation, Bozeman determined that the accident was unavoidable. Bushes surrounding the driveway obscured Miss Matthews' vision, and she didn't have time to swerve or apply her brakes before impact, according to the accident report. The child, the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Lee Williams of Pleasant Hill, apparently died instantly. He suffered from a head injury. Miss Matthews was uninjured. Assisting Trooper Bozeman at the scene of the accident were Pleasant Hill Chief of Police, Willie Cobb, and Sabine Parish Sheriff's deputies, Elbert Tarpley, and Jack Garcie.
