Yaw Retired Lieutenant Colonel Herbert W. Yaw, 70, of Many, died Friday, June 15, in John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas, after a brief illness. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Negreet. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, at 10 a.m., at Zion Hill Baptist Church, with graveside services following at 2 p.m., at Pilkington Cemetery in Benton. Full military honors, performed by the Ft. Polk Honor Guard, will be conducted at the graveside. The Rev. Marvin Lane, former pastor of Zion Hill Baptist Church, is officiating, and being assisted by the Rev. Jimmie Glover, pastor of Zion Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mary Yaw of Negreet; three sons, Steve Ray Yaw of St. Louis, Mo., Brian Keith Yaw and his wife Cris of LaCenter, Wash., and Richard Neil Yaw and his wife Karen of Huntsville, Ala.; one daughter, Kelly Lynn Fernandez and husband Manuel of Houston, Tex.; one brother, Kenneth James Yaw of New Brumford, Tex.; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Yaw spent his earlier years in Shreveport, graduating from Fair Park High School in 1951. He spent many years working for 1st National Bank in Shreveport. He later joined the Internal Revenue Service in St. Louis, Mo. While with the Internal Revenue Service, he spent time in Washington D. C., and Pittsburgh, Penn.
