His grandfather, who is still living, owned before the war seven of the largest sugar plantations on the Mississippi river, and was also part owner of the Green line of steamers which ran between New Orleans and Barcelona. His name was Joseph S. Cucullu, and he had four sons and one daughter, of whom two are yet living. His son Louis was the father of Gaston. The latter is a mechanic and draftsman by trade, and thoroughly understands his business. He has been connected with the A. A. Mims Iron works for the past eleven years. He has been captain of one of the largest boat clubs in the South, and is a member of the Columbia Athletic club, besides of several orders and associations where he takes an active and prominent part. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Biographical and Historical Memoires of Louisiana, (vol. 2), p. 480.
