BUSHNELL (BAYOU CLEAR) CEMETERY - Rapides Parish
African-American Burials

Directions:  Going South on US Hwy 165 from Alexandria, turn right at caution
light in Woodworth (Castor Plunge Road); go two blocks on Castor Plunge Road
and left at First Baptist Church (Bayou Clear Road).  Go three miles and
cemetery is on the left behind trailers.   The cemetery is fenced, and at
first glance appears to be maintained.  However, this is not the case as there
are many fallen markers and probably more than 50 unmarked graves or deep
depressions that probably indicates lost graves.  No attempt was made to
record the large number of unmarked burials or depressions.  Tombstone
inscriptions recorded by Mary Parker Partain, 1991, and submitted by Jane
Parker McManus  

"Bush Land, B. C., orgnyzd [sic] 1876, laid June 3, 1917, membership 25, Rev.
S. T. Young, Pastor.  A. Fields, Deacon."   [This marker is located at the
rear of cemetery, could have  been the front of cemetery at one time, and
appears to be a  marker for the Church which no longer exists.]
