Taylor (1812/1813 - 16 Dec 1859), who married in the latter 1820s, undoubtedly in Butler County Alabama. They lived in Butler in 1830, but soon afterwards followed her brothers into Lowndes County. While many of her siblings migrated from Lowndes County to Union Parish Louisiana between 1837 and 1841, the Gilberts remained in Lowndes with her brothers until about 1848 or 1849. The Gilberts following their relatives to Union Parish at that time, and Charles Gilbert purchased a farm located about one-half mile southeast of the Village of Cherry Ridge, some ten or twelve miles northwest of Farmerville. William T. Gilbert received medical training in the 1850s at some unknown location, and by 1859 he was a practicing physcian. He had married Mary Ann Gilbert (c1836 - 10 Sept 1872) on 25 November 1852 in Union Parish. She was the sister of Sidney Henry Griffin, the Spearsville plantation owner who later served as the Lt. Colonel of the 31st Regiment Louisiana Infantry, Confederate States Army. Following Gilbert's death, his widow remarried to Farmerville merchant Frederick H. Cann, mentioned below. ================================================================================= ================================================================================= Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book E, pp. 301 - 308 ================================================================================= ================================================================================= To the Honorable the Judge of the twelfth Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana The petition of Sidney H. The petition of Frederick H. Cann, Administrator of the Estate of William T. Gilbert, Decd. respectfully claims that he has completed the Administration of said Estate and he herewith files a full, complete and [unreadable] statement of his acts and doings in said administration showing the sum of Debits and Credits as between petitioner and said Estate and the balance due by said Estate to petitioner. From said account, it appears that the whole amount of assets of said Estate that came into the hands of petitioner is two thousand two hundred and fifty three 10/100 dollars ($10253.10). With this account the Administrator, your petitioner is chargeable. The whole amount of the Debts of the Estate which debts have been paid by the Administrator is fifteen thousand four hundred ten 79/100 dollars ($15410.79) which are credits of petitioner leaving due by the Estate to petitioner sum of five thousand one hundred and fifty seven 69/100 dollars ($5157.69). Petitioner avers that these debts were nearly all paid by him while S. H. Griffin, Decd. was Administrator of said Estate and while acting as agent of said S. H. Griffin, Admr. but it is further alleged that by the effect of the war, said Estate became insolvent and as a consequence, petitioner has paid five thousand one hundred and fifty seven 69/100 dollars, the balance now due him over and beyond the assets of said Estate. Petitioner prays that this his final account be advertised according to law and after the legal delays that the same be approved and homologated and that his bond as Administrator be canceled. He prays for no judgment against the Estate as it would be a vain thing, but for general relief. Jno. L. Barrett, Atty. Parish Court Union Parish, La.
