All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** St. Helena Parish Conveyance Records Book F Page 70 The State of Louisiana Parish of St. Helena} Be it remembered that on this the thirteenth day of July in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty eight I Samuel Leonard Parish Judge in and for said Parish, and agreeable to an order of the Honorable courts of Probates, proceeded at the residence of Mistress Margarett Kendrick wife of William Kendrick deceased to espose to public sale the negro and personal property belonging to the succession of William Kendrick late of said Parish, deceased. On credit of one, two and three years the same to draw ten percent interest after due until paid, according to the terms of the family meeting now on file in the office of the court of probate of said parish and after offering the negro boy Tom aged fifteen years and a slave for life to the highest bidder W. Isham Kendrick became the purchaser thereof for the sum of fifteen hundred dollars he gave his three promissory notes for said sum each for one ? of said sum with interest as above stated signed by himself as principal and James H. Harvey and Margaret Kendrick as security. Now therefore know all men by these presents that I Samuel Leonard Parish Judge for the consideration aforesaid hereby transfer, alien, sell, set over and deliver unto said Isham Kendrick his heirs executors administrators and assigns the said negro boy Tom slave for life. To have and to hold the aforesaid negro boy Tom unto the said Isham Kendrick his heirs etc. and I the said Judge hereby and forever defend the said negro boy Tom to be free from the claim or claims of all person or persons unto the said Isham Kendrick his heirs executors administrators and assigns to their proper use and behoof forever. And the said Isham Kendrick for himself his heirs executors administrators & assigns herby mortgages and hypothicates said negro boy Tom for said sum of fifteen hundred dollars in favour of said Judge for the use of the aforesaid heirs of William Kendrick deceased unto the true and final payment of said sum, thus done and subscribed in the town of Greensburg Parish and state aforesaid in presence of Henry Leonard and William H Dobbs witnesses who with the parties and me the said Judge and Notary this twenty eight day of July year above written.
