All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** State of Louisiana Parish of St. Helena Sale of Slaves Absolam Traylor to James Durbin 07 July 1824 Be it known that this day before me, James McKee, Notary Public in and for the said parish duly commissioned, personally appeared James Durbin of the parish aforesaid who proceeded and Exhibited to me instrument of writing requesting the same to be admitted of record and which is in the words and figure following to wit: Know all men by these presents that I, Absolam Traylor of the State of Louisiana and Parish of St. Helena, for and in consideraton of the sum of seven hundred dollars the ... whereof I do hereby acknowledge have this day granted, bargained, and sold unto James Durbin of the State and Parish aforesaid, a certain negro woman named Sally, aged fifty years, also a negro girl named Esther, aged nine years, also a negro boy child aged two years named Deak, also a negro boy named Frank aged about fifteen years all slaves for life warranted free from all diseases prescribed by Law, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and convey for myself, my heirs, and assigns, the said negroes to the said James Durbin, his heirs, and assigns, and futher more, do warranty and defend the said negroes to him, the said Durbin, against all Claims whatever; Given under my hand this seventh day of July one thousand Eight hundred and twenty four.
