AUDITOR'S OFFICE, Dec.19,1860 In accordance with Section 14 of the act entitled an act "Providing for runaway slaves,and establishing a General Depot for the same,"approved March 19,1857,I hereby publish the list of runaway slaves turned over to the Internal Improvement Department of this State at the periods named,to-wit. Madison Mason,bright mulatto,5 feet 7 inches high,hazel eyes,28 or 30 years of age,weighs about 175 pounds,blacksmith by trade,marked with gun-shot wounds in the legs,and says he belongs to John J. Winter,near Jackson,Mississippi;turned over to the Internal Improvement Service on the 12th of April,1856.Amount of expenses paid by the State,$242.65 . Dick Odum,black,5 feet 4 inches high,eyes black,28 or 30 years of age,weighs about 130 pounds,no trade,ruptured,and says he belongs to James Williams,on Bayou Lafourche;turned over to the Internal Improvement Service on the 12th of April,1856.Amount of expenses paid by the State,$288.60. Guillard Baker,black,5 feet 10 inches high,eyes black,24 years of age,weighs about 155 pounds,stone-cutter by trade,marked with a burn on the right arm above the elbow,and says he belongs to Billy Baker,of South Carolina;turned over to the Internal Improvement Service on the 6th day of August,1856.Amount of expenses paid by the State,$201.35. Richard Jackson,black,5 feet 10 inches high,eyes black,about 40 years of age,weighs about 160 pounds,no trade,marked with scar on the cheek,and says he belongs to Edmund Jackson,Knoxville,Tennessee;turned over to the Internal Improvement Service on the 2d day of April,1857.Amount of expenses paid by the State,$261.62. Jim,black,5 feet 3 inches high,eyes black,about 55 years of age,weighs about 135 pounds,no trade,front teeth missing,says he belongs to Wiley Thomas,West Feliciana,Louisiana;turned over to the Internal Improvement Service on the 25th day of October,1858.Amount of expenses paid by the State,$179.21. John,negro man,5 feet 5 1/4 inches high,eyes black,about 45 years of age,weighs about 128 pounds,two upper front teeth missing,ordinary beard,says he is a caulker by trade,and belongs to John Lee,of Norfolk,Virginia;turned over to the Internal Improvement Service on the 4th day of August,1859.Amount of expenses paid by the State,$182.50. Jessy,(Alias Warren),dark griffe,5 feet 3 1/2 inches high,eyes black,about 34 years of age,weighs about 141 pounds,heavy beard,no trade,completely paralysed and shrunk in right arm and shoulder,and part of the chest,and affected in the hip and leg, says he belongs to Henry Williams,now supposed to be dead,or to his wife,also dead;turned over to the Internal Improvement Service on the 20th day of August,1859.Amount of expenses paid by the State,$166.80. George Harris,black,5 feet 6 3/4 inches high,eyes black,weighs 141 pounds,no trade,lump on the back of right hand,and stands badly on his feet,and has a scar from a burn on his breast,says he belongs to James McCullar,Holmesville, Mississippi.and is about 28 years of age;turned over to the Internal Improvement Service on the 27th day of August,1859.Amount of expenses paid by the State,$198.30. Daniel Alexander,black,5 feet 2 1/2 inches high,eyes black,about 25 years of age,weighs about 135 pounds,calls himself a freeman;turned over to the Internal Improvement Service on the 15th day of November,1859.Amount of expenses paid by the State,$168.25. Henry Jackson,griffe,5 feet 7 inches high,stout built,with one scar on the right cheek, near the mouth,and another scar over and in the right eyebrow,two grinders missing from the upper jaw,says he belongs to William Jackson,of Tennessee; turned over to the Internal Improvement Service on the 23th day of January,1860.Amount of expenses paid by the State,$164.25. John,said to belong to Mr.Newton,of Vicksburg,Miss. Color,black. about 5 feet 7 1/2 inches high,weighs about 160 pounds,teeth good,and with no scar except one diagonally across his right temple,upper part;turned over to the Internal Improvement Service on the 6th day of October,1860.Amount of expenses paid by the State,$192.35. Albert,said to belong to Robert Anderson,near Memphis,Tenn.Color, griffe or dark mulatto;age 36,hight 5 feet 9 inches,front teeth good,no scars;turned over December 8th,1860.Amount of expenses paid by the State, $272.40. Joe Long,Color,mulatto:aged 49 years,hight 5 feet 8 1/2 inches,teeth tolerably good,no scars,stout built and likely looking.says he is a free negro from Louisville, Ky.;turned over December 15th,1860.Amount of expenses paid by the State, $268.46.
