Louisiana Please enter your comments? Don will be greatly missed by the Louisiana Archives and especially by me. He was a wonderful friend and mentor. ===== 17 Nov 2004 I think I have known Don Johnson for about as long as I have been the archives manager for Tangipahoa Parish. He was my biggest contributor, my biggest supporter, and sometimes my biggest advice giver, whether or not the advice was wanted. But I always knew that he wanted the best for the USgenweb project, and would try to do what was needed to make that happen. He and I would meet on my visits to family in Louisiana (I live in Massachusetts) and most of the time I would end up carrying home a pile of contributions he had collected for me to get online. My personal vision of Don didn't even come close to reality when I met him for the first time. He was tall with long hair back in a pony tail, and wore more jewelry than I did. Not your typical retired gentleman. When he was diagnosed with the cancer this year, I could tell he deeply regretted giving up all the work he had been doing for the archives. He did manage to support St. Helena to the very end. We lost a good man this week, and I for one will miss him. Sandy --- Sandy McLellan ===== 16 Nov 2004 Within the Louisiana Archives and the USGenWeb, Don's name will always be a synonymous with kindness, helpfulness, and the energy and drive to help many of us (myself included) to build the archives on a parish, state and national level to what it is today. One incident in particular was when Don contacted me to help a lady in SC searching for the gravesite and family of "George Branch". Between Don and myself, we located not only the gravesite but George Branch's mother and sister. Sandy R. (the lady from SC) made a trip to Louisiana. I was able to meet her in Many, but Don was unable to join us. Due to Don though, Sandy and I forged a friendship that is still continued today.
