Participants - 287,000 Deaths in Service - 2,000 Last Veteran - Hiram Cronk, died May 13, 1905, aged 105 years Last Widow - Caroline King, died June 28, 1936, aged not available Last Dependent - Esther A.H. Morgan, died March 12, 1946, aged 89 years The above data is from the Veterans Administration. Many from St. Helena Parish answered the call from Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans. This was a fledgling frontier area but they saw the need to protect their homes. The Womack family, which was a pioneer family of St. Helena, saw five brothers serve in this was: Abner, who was a colonel, Richard, Robert, Abraham and Jacob Green.
