SOLDIERS APPLICATION FOR PENSION I, John Anty, a native of Louisiana and now a citizen of Louisiana, resident at Colfax, in the Parish of Grant in said State of Louisiana, and who was a soldier (or navy as the case may be) from the State of Louisiana in the Confederate States army (or navy as the case may be) in the war between the United States and the Confederate States, do hereby apply for aid under Act 125 of the General Assembly of the State of Louisiana of 1898; and I do solemnly swear that I served the Confederate States honorably from the day of my enlistment until the close of the civil war, (or until discharged or paroled as the case may be) as shown by my answers below, and that I remained true to the Confederate cause until the surrender, and that I am now in indigent circumstances, and unable to earn a livelihood by my own labor or skill, and that I am not salaried or otherwise provided for by the State of Louisiana or by any other State or government, and am entitled to receive the benefits of said Act No. 125 of 1898, as further shown by my answers to the questions below, which I swear to be true and correct: 1. Hyde (a line is drawn through both of these names), and E. N. Evan? & Joe Car?? two of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing application, with whom I am personally acquainted and know to be citizens of veracity and standing in this community, and who make oath that they are personally acquainted with the foregoing applicant, and that the facts set forth and statements made in his application are correct and true, to the best of their knowledge and belief, and that they have no interest in this claim, and that said applicant's habits are good and free from dishonor. Dun (sic) ========================================================================== OTHER LETTERS AND CORRESPONDENCE INCLUDED IN FILE ========================================================================== I State of Louisiana Office Board of Pension Commissioners Baton Rouge 1900 Dear Sir: An investigation by the Board of Pension Commissioners, shows that in a great many instances the pensioner fails to properly give his command. It is very necessary that this should be done, and it has been determined by the Board that you must give your command properly before your application can be filed for examination by them. To do this, at question number two, give date and when you enlisted, and where, then to give your command, give your company by its letter and regiment by number, and give branch of service, whether Artillery, Cavalry or Infantry. Dunn 23rd March 1901 A lot of the handwriting is illegible, but it states that John Anti is a physical wreck. Has chronic inflamation of the eyes and audsty?? droceles?? caused from explosion of cassion causing direst injury to the cord. Totally blind wholly disabled ======================================================================== State of Louisiana Parish of Grant Before me the undersigned authority on this day personally came and appeared JOHN ANTY, to me well known, a resident of this Parish and State, who after being by me first duly sworn did depose and say That he is now a pensioner of the State of Louisiana, for partial disability, account of injuries received in the service of the Confederate States of America, that hie is now totally blind in one of his eyes, and the other eye is affected, sometimes he being able to see only tolerably, and at other times not being able to see his way how to walk etc., he is now suffering greatly from an abscess in his back which the Doctor informs him is chronic, that he is totally disable to do manual labor and earn support for himself, that his is 62 years of age, and he asks for an increase in his pension John Anty (made mark x) Sworn and subscribed before me this June 30th A.D. 1904 by R. W. Richardson Clerk District Court. Also came and appeared Milton Dunn M.D. who being sworn says that he has attended the said John Anty in his sickness, and that his condition is very serious that he is now affected as follows: Almost totally blind. Sight of one eye destroyed completely. Can barley see light with the other refuated or chronic abscesses in back from old wound. His headstone at Aloha Cemetery in Grant Parish shows John Antee - June 2, 1843/Jan 11, 1912 His wife at the time of his death was Luvenia Briant.
