Muster roll for October 31, 1862, to February 28, 1863, last roll on file, show him present. Union Prisoner of War records show that he was captured July 4, 1863, at Vicksburg, Mississippi, and paroled July 7, 1863, at same place. He was surrendered May 26, 1865, by Gen. E. K. Smith, Confederate States Army, and paroled July 17, 1865, at Washington, Louisiaan. His residence is shown as St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. C. H. Box 4065 Baton Rouge 4, Louisiana Mr. Paul Hebert, Jr. Branch, Louisiana Dear Mr. Hebert, Your letter of February 11 regarding the death of your mother, Mrs. Ellen L. Hebert, Confederate Pensioner #13829, has been referred to us by the Department of Finance. We are indeed in sympathy with you in the losss of your mother. Since Mrs. Hebert passed away on January 7, 1948, her heirs are entitled to receive partial payment from her January check. This unpaid balance is payable to the adminstrator of the estate if one has been appointed, or to the person named by the heirs to receive the amount due. A certificate of death must be submitted in order to establish the date through which payment may be made. If January 7 was the correct date of death, the heirs are entitled to receive $13.55. In order that the heirs might receive the amount due it will be necessary for each heir to complete the necessary affidavits. Please send us a list of names, addresses, and relatinship of each of Mrs. Hebert's heirs. As soon as we receive this information we will send you the necessary affidavits to be completed.
