Respectfully returned to the Commissioner of Pensions, State of Texas, Austin. There are no rolls on file in this office of any company of the 7th Louisiana Cavalry, C.S.A., and no record has been found of the service, capture or parole of a man bearing the name Elijah Fogleman, or similar name, as a member of that regiment. The records show, however, that one Elijah L. Fogleman (name also borne as E. L. Fogleman and as E. L. Faughlman, but not found as Elijah Fogleman), private, Company F, 8th Louisiana Infantry, C. S.A., enlisted June 23, 1861, at Camp Moore, Louisiana; that he was captured November 7, 1863, at Rappahannock, and was exchanged March 10, 1864. The records further show that he was surrendered May 26, 1865, at New Orleans, Louisiana, and was paroled June 21, 1865, at Washington, Louisiana. It is proper to add that the record of this soldier was furnished to the President, Louisiana Board of Pension Commissioners, Baton Rouge, in a communication addressed to him from this office under date of November 13, 1907, Geo. Andrews The Adjutant General [Researcher's note: The Elijah L. Fogleman referred to above was in fact another son of John Fogleman and his second wife, Sarah Simmons. He too was a CSA veteran and he was captured at Rappahannock. His pension application is probably available from the state of Louisiana. The error in this request for verification cost M.T. Fogleman several years of compensation under the Pension Act. Purpose: The person above named is an applicant for a Confederate pension granted by this State, and I desire to verify his proof of service. Very respectfully, JW Stephens Comptroller [Researcher's note: This request, as the previous one, also contains a fatal error on the part of the Comptroller's office - the request was made in the name of the WIDOW, instead of the veteran.
