J. Murray made application for his confederate pension - states he was born 1842 in Dallas co. Alabama,enlisted at Shreveport, La January 1863 in Gayols Battery Artillery and that he served until hostiledge was over. He surrendered at Natchitoches in Company P Crescent Regiment and that he did not take the oath of allegiance to the United States Government. He claims to be a resident of Louisiana since 1849. At the time of application his address was Pleasant Hill, Louisiana and his age was 71. From family records we know that his full name was Hillery M. Murray and he was the son of Sylvester and Eveline Turner Murray.
