Bartlett enlisted at Vienna in the 2nd LA Infantry, Co. K, was wounded twice in two battles in the East, and captured at Gettysburg. He was paroled and returned to Jackson Parish and later settled in Bienville Parish at Friendship. On May 22,1899 he applied and received a pension from the State of Louisiana for his service in the Confederate Army of $6.15 per quarter. Two witnesses, S. C. Harville and (?) Barksdale attested to his veracity in this matter. Original documents on microfilm are located at the Louisiana State Archives in Baton Rouge.
