Mr. Will J. Kelly, formerly of this parish, shot a colored man named Sam Langston, on Tuesday, 11th inst. Langston died in a few hours. The shooting occured in Ascension parish and was the result of a row caused by Langston's refusal to work. Mr. Kelly passed St. Charles station on the Texas & Pacific Railroad last Thursday evening. It is supposed he was on his way to give himself up. We have since learned that he was released on $2000 bond. A colored boy named Sylvester Barthelmy, was shot and seriously wounded last Sunday evening, by Buddy Green, who is now in custody. Then shooting was, as usual, the result of a gambling spree; the accused remarked that he was going to shoot some ni**er before night, when the wounded boy replied, well, you will not shoot me, and started to walk off, whereupon Green did shoot him, it is said without a cause or provocation. >
