Survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Bernard and Wineta Hitchens, Baton Rouge, and Floyd and Rose Hitchens and Donald Ray and Arise Hitchens, all of Greensburg; a daughter, Lenora Joseph, Greensburg; five sisters; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. JACKSON, EDWARD "SON HARVEY" A resident and native of Greensburg, he departed this life Thursday, July 6, 2000, at University Hospital, New Orleans. He was 90. MCCLENDON, FLORENCE HENRY "DISSIE" A native and resident of Greensburg, she departed this life at 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2000, at Sinai-Grace Hospital, Detroit, at age 86. She was visiting her two sons, Jerome Doughty Sr. and Jewel Henry in Detroit. She was a member of Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ, La. 16, Pine Grove. She played an important part in organizing St. Mary Baptist Church and was a retired bus driver for the St. Helena Parish School Board. Visitation is at St. Mary Baptist Church from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Religious services at Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ at noon Saturday, under the leadership of Elder Peter Donald. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Hattie Henry; husband, Archie McClendon; a brother, Isiah "Boy" Henry Sr.; a son, Joe Doughty; and a niece, Cecial Johnson. She leaves to cherish her precious memory three children, Jerome Doughty and wife Gladys Doughty and Jewel Fredrick Henry, all of Detroit, and Jackie Henry Tucker and husband Bill Tucker, Baton Rouge; 26 grandchildren, including Yolanda Landrew, Calvin Landrew, Jerome Doughty Jr., Danita Knight, Broderick Knight, Jacquelyn, Harris and Christopher Tucker, Lakisha George and Devon Holiday; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Southern University and a master's of art and 30 plus hours in supervision and counseling. He did further studies on his doctorate at Nova University, Miami. He had worked as a teacher and a principal in St. Helena Parish and had served as superintendent of St. Helena and East Feliciana parishes. He was affiliated with Louisiana Association of Educators, National Education Association, Retired Superintendent Association, Retired Teachers Association and numerous other organizations.
