She was a native and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge and a loving sister, mother and grandmother. A celebration of her life will be held at Bethel AME Church, 1358 South St., from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. Survived by three children and their spouses, Russell Sr. and Paula Kelly and Eric Sr. and Kerri Kelly, all of Baton Rouge, and Vida K. and Andre Marsh, San Antonio; a brother and sister-in-law, Theodore R. Jr. and Larender Smith, Baton Rouge; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Constance S. and Huber Lamotte, Baton Rouge, and Yvonne B. and Rufus Young, Little Rock, Ark.; six grandchildren, Russell II, Ross, Eric Jr. and London Kelly, all of Baton Rouge, and Kyomi and Ashlei-Michele Marsh, both of San Antonio; former husband, Nolan Kelly Sr., Baker; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was a 1953 graduate of Southern University Laboratory School and was valedictorian and homecoming queen. She completed her undergraduate and master's degrees from Southern University. She began her professional teaching at Chaneyville High School, followed by Capital Senior High, until she was promoted to assistant principal of instruction at Broadmoor Senior High School, where she remained until her retirement in 1988. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore R. Smith Sr. and Angie Tacneau Smith; and two aunts, Edith B. Smith and Amelia Squeair; and grandfather, Lafayette Smith.
