He was one of the best of his race. As a slave, and as a free man, in war and peace, he was true to his people and true to those to whom he owed a duty. He was an old servant to the Conrad family and highly esteemed by them. He served in Washington for such men as Henry Clay and those of his time. His family and friends feel proud of his record, and justly so. For the past sixteen years he has been Justice of the Peace of the eighth ward.
