Landry 26 Apr 1935 - Luke V. Landry, 94 year-old veteran and one of the few surviving members of the Pointe Coupee artillery, died Saturday at 5:45 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. T. Miller, 507 Boyd Avenue, Baton Rouge. He had been ill only two weeks. Mr. Landry had served through the entire period of the War Between the States, having joined the Confederate ranks at he outbreak when he was 20. He was uninjured in the war. His advanced age and increasing deafness had kept him from participating in Confederate reunions in recent years, but when he was more active he had attended the reunions, including one at Chattanooga and another in Houston. He had been active around the house up to the time of his illness and had made daily excursions in the neighborhood. He preferred to walk to St. Joseph's Church and back and was a familiar figure in the neighborhood. Mr. Landry was born in Iberville parish and was the son of the late Eugene Landry and Adrian Hebert Landry, the former of St. Gabriel. His wife, the former Ermance Lefeaux of Iberville, died ten months age. For many years he had been engaged in farming and in the mercantile business, and had resided in Plaquemine and Maringouin before he took up residence in Baton Rouge 18 years ago. Mr. Landry was the father of Dr. Paul Landry, of Port Allen and L. V. Landry, Jr. of New Orleans. He leaves also two daughters, Mrs. T. W. Walsh, and Mrs. Miller of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Mrs. Louisa Gimet of Maringouin, who is 96 years old; and Mrs. Alice Coleman of Many; 24 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Two daughters, Mrs. Marcus Booksh and Mrs. Clara Ounso died some years ago. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock from the Miller residence on Boyd Avenue, Baton Rouge, to St. Jospeh's Catholic Church where final rites were conducted. He was laid to rest beside his wife in the family plot in Roselawn Memorial Park, Baton Rouge. ------------------------------------------------------- Obituaries: Mrs. R. J. Jesup Monday afternoon at four o'clock. Deceased died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. R. B. Stephens, Zwolle, Dec. 8. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. R. B. Stephens, Zwolle, Mrs. A. H. Stephens, Many, Mrs. W. F. Simmons, Robeline, and one son, E. L. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** ************ The Sabine Index - Robet Pendleton Wilson 23 Feb 1951 - Funeral services for Robet Pendleton Wilson, 101, one of Louisiana's two remaining Confederate veterans ,were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Terrance Catholic church at Pleasant Hill. Mr. Wilson, who would have observed his 102nd birthday on Sept. 16, 1951, died about 4:45 a.m. Sunday in Prothro clinic at Pleasant Hill following an short illness. A native of Grifin, Ga., the centenarian, who was affectionately known as "Uncle Bob" moved in Louisiana with his parents when he was a child. He had resided in Natchitoches, DeSoto and Sabine parishes for the past 89 years. He rode with Gen. J. B. Stewart's calvary as a private during the Civil War, fighting in the Battle of Mansfield and other campaigns. His father, "Keeler Bill" Wilson, lived to be 104. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. J. E. Watts, Longview, Mrs. Lee Neal and Miss Jewella Wilson, with whom he resided, both of Pleasant Hill; two sons, W. O. Wilson, Shreveport, and Leon Wilson, Pleasant Hill;; two sisters, Mrs. Florence McCaskill and Miss Sarah Wilson, both of Marshall, Texas, 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Burial was at the Zion Rest Cemetery, Pleasant Hill. -------------------------------------------------------
