That, whereas, the above bounden Lymus Bullard has this day obtained a License from the Clerk of the District Court of the Parish of Casso, to marry with Laura Shephard. Now, if at the time said License was granted, there existed no legal impediment or obstacle to the celebration of said Marriage, then and in such case this obligation to be null and void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue in law. Lymus X his mark Bullard The State of Louisiana *** Parish of Caddo To any Minister of the Gospel, Judge or Justice of the Peace, who is authorized to celebrate Marriage within the Parish of Caddo, Greeting: You are hereby Authorized and empowered to celebrate Marriage between Mr. Lymus Bullard and Miss Laura Shephard to join them together in Holy and Lawful Wedlock according to law. Given under my hand and seal of office, at the City of Shreveport, this the 21 day of January A.D. 1882. F. A. Leonard Deputy Clerk. *Note: The person putting up the security bond should have also signed but didn't. There also was no record of the "Process Verbal of Marriage" being filed and recorded in the Clerk of Court's office. This record provides the proof that the marriage actually took place, but sometimes it is not returned. One can only assume that they did wed since the 1900 census records shows that he has been married for 18 years which would date back to this record, however, she is not living in the home. This is also not unusual as some people lived out to work domestic work and returned home on weekends and holidays. Source: Caddo Parish LA Marriage Records Date January 21, 1882 book 14, page 139.
