Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Hi & Welcome To The St. Bernard Parish Mail List! I was doing some checking to see who might have subscribed to the list and was surprised to see so many of you already! As you can see, this list is not real active, but if we get some conversation started, who knows what might pop up. I am also the St. Bernard Parish USGenWeb Site Sponsor. I have family research connections in St. Bernard Parish and was interested in seeing more genealogical data on the internet for all of you who are researching in this area, too. I am willing to help as much as I can, but I do work full-time and have a family. If you need assistance, please just keep that in mind. I'll be glad to do what I can, as I can. I have been in contact with the St. Bernard Genealogical & Historical Society over the past couple of years since becoming the USGenWeb sponsor. They have been great about giving me information regarding upcoming meetings, etc. They have also donated for publication on the net, an extraction of the burials in St. Bernard Cemetery. I have been working on that and hope to have it up some time in the near future. If any of you have information specific to St. Bernard Parish that you would like to submit for our St. Bernard Parish Database (i.e., extracted marriage, birth, cemetery records, family histories, bible records, etc.), I would be most happy to put them up. It's a simple task and I feel it would be worthwhile to many of you in hopes of making contact with others who are researching your same line. Let me know if I can help in anyway. I look forward to seeing some activity on this mail list. I wish each of you a very happy, healthy 1998! Linda S. Howard" lindas@challenger.net> To: LASTBERN-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: Subject: Roll Call & Ground Rules Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Hello Fellow St. Bernard Parish, LA Researchers! Seems like we haven't had much activity on the list since its inception, so I thought I'd lay some ground rules regarding roll calls and see if we can't get something started. First, for those of you who are new to genealogy and don't know what a roll call is, here is an explanation: A roll call is where you post the names of your MOST WANTED surnames, with a little bit of information about that surname. Example: Gonzales - 1850 - Mereaux, LA The ground rules are this: 1. Your "subject" line must contain at least one surname that you are researching. 2. The body of your message must contain the surname listed in the subject line and list ONLY basic information as shown above. 3. The message must contain no signature or tag lines at the end. 4. All surnames in the message must have a connection to St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. With these things in mind, I'm willing to give this a try and see if we can't generate some conversation. On your marks......get set.......GEAUX! ************************************************************************* LASTBERN-D Digest Volume 98 : Issue 4 Today's Topics: #1 Wall Vaults at St. Louis No. 3 Cem [ken clay ] Administrivia: To unsubscribe from LASTBERN-D, send a message to LASTBERN-D-request@rootsweb.com that contains in the body of the message the command unsubscribe and no other text. The Archdiocese of New Orleans has planned the demolition of three sections of condemned wall vaults in the St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery within the next few years. Among these wall vaults is one purchased by my gggggrandmother, Rosa Therese Petit Gouguet. There are 12 of our family members, including my gggrandmother and 6 children, buried in this wall vault. (See below.) I am hoping to find other descendants of Rosa's and especially the holder of the deed, so that we may decide what can be done with the remains of our ancestors. This is a very troubling situation. I thought that tombs were sacred places that the family owned forever. Not so. Any plot or wall vault "neglected" for 50 years reverts back to the possession of the owner of the cemetery be that the city or the Archdiocese or whomever. The cemetery is then entitled to resell that property. This is what the Archdiocese plans to do within a few years: tear down three sections of wall vaults and rebuild and resell them. They say the money is to be used to fund restoration of the two sections that will remain for historical purposes. Thanks for listening, Renee Clay New Orleans, LA kclay@bellsouth.net Buried in St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery, Square No. 1, Vault No. 12, Range No. 2, Sect. B, St. Joseph Alley. PETIT, Mme.
