He was the best friend and loving spouse of Patricia Fanning of 44 years to the day. Dedicated dad to Robert John, Michael Thomas and the late David Patrick Fanning. Devoted and proud grandpa to Jonathan R. Fanning. He is also survived by his loving brother, Louis R. Fanning and his special aunt, Mary Fanning. Son-in-law to Catherine and the late Buster Sampere. Brother-in-law to Leisa and Steve Smith; Michele and Cliff Bertucci and Carlo and Loredana Sampere. Loving son of the late Robert T. and Edna Jaquillard Fanning. Grandson of the late Louis and Edna Jaquillard and Robert and Caroline Fanning. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Age 63. Bob was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Meraux, LA for 40 years. He retired from AT&T/Avaya/Lucent Telephone Communications Systems with over 40 years of service and was a CWA Union Member. He was a graduate of Redemptorist High School. He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force for 6 years. He was an avid bass fisherman and a diehard fan of the Saints and LSU. He was the "go to" man if anyone had a problem, needed advice, or mentoring. He was a dear friend to so many, but he will always be a hero to us. Relatives and friends are invited to attend an evening visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Monday, August 30th, 2010 from 6:00PM - 9:00PM and again on Tuesday, August 31st from 9:00AM - 11:00AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel beginning at 11:00AM. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
