This will serve as a good lesson to those flourishing pistols. John Kelly, (colored), son of Wash Kelly, seriously shot himself in the side on Wednesday last, while carelessly handling a shotgun. He appeared easier at last accounts, and hopes are entertained for his recovery. Our genial friend, Thos. J. Sellers, Esq., has returned from quite an extended trip north and east. He is looking the picture of health and certainly appears to have seen all that was worth seeing. Moses Ely, colored, who has probably committed more crimes in the way of shooting, arson and rape, then any man in Louisiana, and who was lately sentenced by Judge Hahn, in Jefferson parish, to fourteen years in the penitentiary, has made his escape. While being conveyed with other convicts on a car along the coast near Bonnet Carre, St. John parish, La., just after dark, he jumped off, and after being fired at by several guards, disappeared among the tall weeds, and could not afterwards be found. It is uncertain whether he was wounded or not. This is the second time he has escaped from the penitentiary. On the former occasion he was recaptured, and the authorities are now again on the lookout for him. He was a terror to the good colored people of Jefferson and St. Charles. # # #
