She was 60 years old. She is survived by her husband, Sam E. Bates, son David Hinze Jr., daughters Peggy Fitch, Billie Jo Currier and Jusy Hanzik, sisters Eva Ratcliff, Rita Dunn and Janet Ergeron and seven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emile Joseph Lirette Sr. and Lornza Marie Guise Lirette, brothers Jimmy, Iris, Levis, Leon, Emile Jr. and Milton Lirette, sisters Urilda, Rose and Darlene Lirette and Irene Lambos and one grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Jan. 5 at Falgout Chapel in Raceland. =========================== Blouin Oscar "O.J." Blouin, Jr. passed away on Jan. 23 of cancer. He was 51 years old. Born and raised in New Orleans, he was a resident of Des Allemands for the past 12 years. Son of the deceased Oscar and Gloria Blouin of New Orleans, his survivors include his wife, Phyllis Guillot Blouin, children Amanda Blouin Eckhardt, Jaime Blouin, Laura Blouin, Christopher Blouin and Sara Blouin, son-in-law David Eckhardt, future son-in-laws Michael Nicolini and Bryan Hoppen and future daughter-in-law Dixie Breaux, grandchildren Abigail Eckhardt, Tyler Nicolini and Ellie Blouin and mother-in-law Marie Azalie Guillot. Mr. Blouin was a former employee of H.B. Zachry Construction at Monsanto in Luling. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands on Jan. 26. =========================== Camardelle Brian Keith "Scooter" Camardelle Jr., a resident of Luling, died on Jan. 18. He was 19 years old. An employee of St. Charles Parish Public works and a member of St. Charles Baptist Church, he is survived by his father, Brian Camardelle Sr., son Caine Camardelle, grandparents Robert and Susan Boudoin and Adam Jr. and Rita Badeaux, brother Brandon Camardelle, stepbrother Andre Benoit and half-sisters Jacilynne Lester and Amanda Camardelle. He is preceded in death by his mother, Shelly Boudin. She was 87 years old. A native of Wallace and resident of St. James and Donaldsonville, she was born on Dec. 10, 1916, to Ida Waguespack and Ulysse Dufresne. She graduated valedictorian in 1934 from Edgard High and was married on July 3, 1939, to joseph Clerville "Cap" Falgoust of Vacherie, son of Amelida Stein and Jourdan Falgoust. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Gayle Falgoust of Metairie and Sharon and Sterling Zeringue of Norco; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Jo Ann Canella Falgoust of Baton Rouge and Glen and Angela Morris Falgoust of Donaldsonville; sisters Agnes Dufresne Barrˇ, Georgette Dufresne Spoonts and Ethel Dufresne; brother Ulysse Dufresne; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Joseph Galatas passed away on Jan. 4 at 10:45 a.m. at Canon Hospice. He was 57 years old. A native of Garyville and resident of Jefferson Parish, he is survived by mother Rita Andre of Baton Rouge, step-mother Lillie Staurd of St. Rose, brothers Russel Charles Galatas and wife Betucci Galatas of St. Rose, William Charles Galatas and wife Tony Raynes Galatas of Hahnville, sister Gynelle Galatas Stoker of Kenner, stepsister Lorretta Frommeyer of Metaire, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, William Cliffton Galatas Sr., brother William Cliffton Galatas Jr. and sister Earlene Galatas Hammet. Graveside services were held on Jan. 7 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in St. Rose. =========================== Johnson Long-time parish councilman Curtis Johnson Sr. passed away on Jan. 27 of a heart attack at St. Charles Parish Hospital. He was 71. Johnson was elected a police juror in 1977 and served as councilman for the St. Rose area from 1988 to 2000. He also worked in the 70's as a parish zoning code enforcement officer. Johnson was a lifelong resident of St. Rose. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and attended Grambling State University for two years. He was a member of the National Negro Professional Baseball League during the 1950's. He was also a member of the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club. The organization will hold a jazz funeral for Johnson on Saturday. Johnson is survived by a son, Curtis "Tiger" Johnson Jr., of Miami; two daughters, Lynette Johnson Brown of New Orleans and Dionne Johnson of St. Rose; and nine grandchildren. A funeral was held on Jan. 31 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 100 Second Street in St. Rose. =========================== Loupe Esther Mary Loupe, a native of Milwaukee, Wis. and resident of Albany, passed away on Jan. 4. She was 79 years old. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Loupe and Steven Allan Bowman, sons Michael Loupe and wife Jill, John Loupe and Richard Loupe, 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Rosalya Pokroa Bartnikowski and brothers Stanley, Walter, Leonard, Casmir and Chester Bartnikowski. Roberts, a resident of Youngsville and native of St. Charles Parish, passed away on Jan. 29. He was 37 years old. He is survived by his wife Barbra Roberts, mother Cynthia Cetadol, guardian parents Rene and Cheryl Matherne, son John S. Roberts Jr., daughters Velvet N. Roberts and Alexis R. Roberts and brothers Lloyd Cetadol Jr. and Floyd Cetadol. He is preceded in death by his father, Howell S. Roberts, and his stepfather, Lloyd Cetadol Sr. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of 16 years, Mr. Roberts' religious service was held on Feb. 6 at Falgout Funeral Home in Raceland, followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery in Luling. =========================== Savage George Hubert Savage Jr., a retired Entergy Corp. material management supervisor, died on Jan. 17 of renal failure at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Miss. He was 60 years old. Mr. Savage was born in Beardstown, Ill. and lived in Luling for 20 years. He was a retired master sergeant in the Marines and served in Vietnam. His commendations include the Good Conduct Medal with six stars, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. Survivors include his companion, Wanda Phillips, son George Savage III and stepsons, Chauncey Mize and Phillip Patrick, stepdaughters Tara Naquin, Chandra Sampey and Pamela Gilbert, mother Pearl Lucille Savage, sister Carolynn Sue Hall, and five grandchildren. A graveside military service was held on Jan. 24 at Ebenezer Cemetery in Pennington, Ala. ======================================================================= February 2004 ======================================================================= Abbate Connie Ann Abbate, age 42, of Garyville, passed away on Feb. 11 at St. Charles Hospital. She is survived by her husband Peter Abbate, sons Peter Jr., Brad and Brett Abbate, daughter Brandie Abbate, brothers Alvin and Donald Louque, and sisters Sandra Anslum Susan Falcon and Carolyn Rizzuto. She was 44 years old. Born in Bastrop on Aug. 11, 1949, he is survived by his wife, Vickie Taylor, son Brennon Taylor, daughter Tiffanie Taylor, mother and step-father Mary Ruth and Prentis Allred, father and mother-in-law Ernest and Orpha McIntyre and brother Glen "Dick" Taylor. She was 74 years old. She is survived by her daughters, Myra Dupont and her husband Jerome, Mara Oubre and her husband Richard and Pamela Ponville and her husband Michael, brother Clifton Cologne and his wife Genevieve, sister Shirley Bergeron and her husband Kerner, brother-in-law Edison Plaisance, grandchildren Jason Dupont and wife Annette, Andrea Dupont, Therell Oubre, Ryan Oubre, Jessica Aysen and husband Nick, Joshua Ponville and Jackie Ponville. He was retired from Shell Oil in Norco as an operations foreman. Nolan was a graduate of Catholic High School in Donaldsonville, attended Southeastern University and joined Shell in 1952. Wilson Sr., "Papa George," of 204 Asphodel Drive, Dothan, Ala. died on July 30 at Flowers Hospital with his family by his side. He was 79 years old. He was one of 14 children. He moved to south Louisiana as a child and remained there throughout his young adult life. That is where he met his wife of 53 years, Betty Jane Mahoney. They resided in Dothan for almost 30 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan and a member of the Masonic Order. George was a man of many professions. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a welder, jeweler, businessman, husband, father, grandfather and a great friend to many. Jack received his masters of engineering degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1953 then moved to Norco to work at Shell Oil. He retired from Shell Norco in 1987. He was 50 years old. He is survived by his sisters, Sandra Flowers and Patricia Berkey. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard S. and Rita Zeller Waterman, brother Mennaugh "Joe" Waterman and sister Nora Waterman. Religious services were held on Aug. 19 at the Des Allemands Mennonite Church. =========================== Yoes Henry Eugene "Gene" Yoes, Jr., long time publisher and editor of the St. Charles Herald, died on August 30 in his home in Gonzales. He was 81 years old. Yoes was born in Baton Rouge in 1923 and graduated from Istrouma High School before entering the U. S. Army and participating in World War II. Upon completion of his military service, he reentered Louisiana State University where he graduated in journalism in 1948. He then began working for the Abbeville Meridioinal newspaper. He re-enlisted in the U. S. Army, but again returned to civilian life working for the Lafourche Comet newspaper. In 1954, he purchased the St. Charles Herald and moved to St. Charles Parish. During approximately forty years as editor and publisher of the Herald, he and the newspaper won several Louisiana Press Association Awards, including the Community Service Award, considered by many the highest award of the organization. He also edited the Kenner City News for a while. Yoes also operated HEY Services, Inc., an employment agency in Jefferson Parish during the 1970's. In 1991, he authored the book, "The Pursuit of Academic Excellence," a history of education in St. Charles Parish. Prior to his death, Yoes resided with his daughter, Tracy and son-in-law, Richard Favrot, who cared for him during a long battle with cancer. Yoes had survived throat cancer during the 1970's. He is survived by eight children, Henry E. Yoes, III of Lake Charles, Marsha Y. Sciortino of Mandeville, Pamela Y. Leon of Baton Rouge, Michael Yoes, Sr. of Destrehan, Cynthia Yoes of Grand Isle, Patrick Yoes, Sr. of Norco, Rebecca Y. Becnel of Luling and Tracy Yoes of Gonzales; 21 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren, three daughters-in-law, four sons-in-laws. The wake will be Sunday, Sept. 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home in Norco. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 6. Burial will follow at St. Charles cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge are requested. Louque Jr., a retiree of Kaiser, died at the age of 66 on Sept. 7 at his residence in Grand Point. He was 76 years old. A native of Hahnville and resident of Luling, Vial became coroner on June 7, 1967 and has served in that position ever since. He was a member of the St. Charles Masonic Lodge #445, and the Consistory and Jerusalem Temple. He was also an early board member and doctor at St. Charles Parish Hospital. He is survived by his first wife, Beverly Barre Vial, sons David J., Stephen O., J. Kenneth, D. Frederick and L. Andre Vial, daughters M. Monica Vial Benson, Lisa V. Brosser, Beverly V. Chester and Francesca, Alicia and Christina Vial, his brother Leon C. Vial III, 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
