GRIFFIN

Dick "Pick" Griffin died on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 2 a.m. at St. Charles Hospital in 
Luling. A native and lifelong resident of Boutte. Age 54 years. 

Father of Bonnie Naquin, son of Ellis and Elma Griffin. Brother of Gerald 
Griffin, Ellis Griffin Jr., Donald Griffin, Irma Vicknair, Dolores Gassen, 
Audrey Breaux, Mary Leblanc, Phyllis Breaux and Annette Gray. Also survived by 
four grandchildren. 

Relatives and friends of the family were invited to attend the mass of Christian 
burial at St. John Baptist Catholic Church in Paradis on Dec. 7. Interment was 
held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Raceland.

Hicks Youngs Sellers, born April 1, 1958, a native of the Mozella area and 
resident of Carriere, Mississippi, died on October 27 at 3:28 p.m. in Forest 
General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. 

Son of the late John Luther Sellers and Mary Shadell Sellers Louisiana. Survived 
by daughter Aimee Sellers and loving companion Joyce Ford with two daughters 
Kimberly Hearndon and Rhianna Chapman. Brother of John Thomas Sellers, Walter 
Luther Sellers, Emma Sellers Rousse, Phoebe Sellers Cellos, Earl John Picou, 
Edward Frank Picou, Julian Eugene Picou and Phillip Richard Picou. 

A memorial for Hicks Youngs Sellers will be placed in the Youngs Cemetery in 
Mozella, Louisiana.

Beloved wife of Harold Landeche, Sr. Mother of Brian, Harold, Jr., Karen

Frances Stevens, Jennie Defelice, Rea Muller and Winnie Comardelle. She is also 
survived by 8 grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents: Emile and Alida LeBlanc Plaisance, her 
son" Scott J. Landeche, brothers: Warren, Edwin, O'Neol, Frank and Emile 
Plaisance, sister: Gonette LeBouef. 

A native of Larose and a resident of Luling, LA. She was a retired school 
teacher of 20 years with the St. Charles Parish school system. 

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
on Friday November 24, 2006 at Holly Family Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will 
be held at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 9:00 A.M.

Vera "Noonoon" Clouatre age 69, on Thursday November 30, 2006 at 12:55 A.M. in 
Destrehan, LA. 

Daughter of the late Septime and Daisy Clouatre. Survived by her sister Wanda 
Faye Schexnayder, she was also the sister of the late Hurless Sr. "Blackie", 
Weldon, Eugene Clouatre and Joycelyn C. Rebowe. Special sister-in-law of Mrs. 
Hurless "White" Clouatre. Loving aunt of 22 nieces and nephews, a host of great 
nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews. Godmother of Pam Donaldson. 

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sacred Heart Altar 
Society. Visitation was at H.C.ALEXANDER FUNERAL HOME in Norco, LA on Saturday, 
December 2, 2006. Mass of Christian Burial immediately followed at Sacred Heart 
of Jesus Catholic Church in Norco, LA. Interment in St. Charles Borromeo 
Cemetery, Destrehan, LA.

Age 73 years. A native of Luling and a resident of Bayou Gauche where he lived 
in his house boat. He was a decorated Korean War veteran having received the 
Untied Nations Medal, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Korean 
Presidentail Unit Citation.

husband Lawrence and Therese Lagarde Progar and husband James. Step-father of 
Donny Brown and his wife Patricia and the late Danny brown. Son of the late 
Charles S. Lagarde, Sr. and Enola Courville Lagarde. Brother of the lare Eugene 
Lagarde, Marie Louise Lagarde, Emma Casse and Enola Lagarde. Also survived by 
five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 

A native and resident of St. Charles Parish. Age 85 years. He was a member of 
the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and was a World War II veteran. He was 
an attorney for over 40 years in Luling.

Blake and Brent Samaha of Luling. Three brothers, Maurice and Lester Matherne of 
Des Allemands and George Matherne of Metairie. Three sisters, Velma Breaux and

Preceded in life by her husband, Eugene Joseph Perrer. Her parents, Hypolite and 
Clementine Folse Matherne. Two sons, Eugene Paul and Danny Joseph Perrer. One 
daughter, Sylvia Mae Perrer Champagne. Two brothers, Eloie and Eddie Matherne.

Tyler Ayme, Nathan Ayme and Mahlon Ayme. Brother of Bryon Ayme, the late Gloria 
Ayme Mouton and Lloyd "Tate" Ayme. Grandfather of the late Jason Ayme. Also

Son of Allen Joseph Donnaud Sr. and Edith Boudreaux Donnaud.

Native of Luling. Age 50. Survived by his wife, Holly Donnaud; four sons, 
Joshua, Micheal, William and Matthew; one daughter, Elisa; two brothers, Allen 
Donnaud and wife Katherine of Atlanta, GA, Gary Donnaud of Luling; one sister, 
Darlene Tonjes and Husband Mark of Atlanta, GA; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, 
nephews and friends - including his best friend Jerry Scoggins Sr. 

Andy was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Luling. He enjoyed 
fishing and he was a navid football fan. He was known for helping out anyone in 
need. Most of all, he was known for his unique sense of humor. 

Visitation was held on Wednesday, Nov. 8 and Thursday, Nov. 9 2006 at Hartman 
Funeral Home in McComb, MS. Paul Donnaud officiating. Service was held on 
Thursday, Nov. 9 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Hartman Funeral Home Chapel. Burial at 
Pike Memorial Gardens in McComb.

JOHNSON

Services for Leon Anthony Johnson were held at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, 
2006 in the chapel of John Kramer & Son with Father Bruce Miller officiating.

Interment was in Alexandria Memorial Gardens in Alexandria under the direction 
of John Kramer & Son. 

Mr. Johnson, 80, was born in Lecompte, LA, formerly of Cheneyville, LA and 
resided in Luling since 1957. 

He died at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans on Nov. 9. 

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Luling, a member of the 
American Legion and a retiree of E.I. DuPont in Reserve. 

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by one daughter, Kelly J. Breaux and is 
survived by his wife of 56 years, Wilma B. Johnson of Luling; one son, John J. 
Johnson of Allen, Texas; two daughters, Karen J. Donnaud (Gerald J.) of Luling 
and Barbara J. Wood (Richard L.) of Alabaster, Ala.; one brother, Joseph G. 
Johnson (Irma Z.) of Luling; seven grandchildren, Sherri B. Dufrene, Dawn B. 
Bourgeois, Danielle D. Clause, Wesley G. Donnaud, Drew R. Wood, Todd L. Wood,

Survived by nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, six god children and a 
host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

student after working all day, then became a middle school teacher at Landry 
Middle School. She was promoted to the technology department where she found her 
calling. Janice touched so many of our lives," said friend Pam Dufrene.

Henry Smith Sr., age 85, went home to be with the Lord on Wed., Sept. 13 at 1 
p.m. at Houma Hospice of Louisiana.  He was born in Raceland on Nov. 9, 1921.  

He leaves his beloved wife of 53 years, Olivia T. Smith.  Three daughters: 
Eunice S. Gray (Charlie), Julia S. White (Wilbert) and Elise S. Boyd (Michel).  
Three sons: Kerry Lee Smith Jr. (Casandra), Henry Smith Jr. (Roxanne) and Kevin 
Karson Smith (Pricilla).  

He was born to the late Louis Smith and the late Bertha Allen Smith.  To this 
union 10 children were born.  Five brothers: James Smith, the late Henry Smith

Funeral services for Mark Stephen Cooley, age 36, of Houston, were held Fri., 
Sept. 15 at Ashford United Methodist Church in Houston.  

Mr. Cooley passed away on Tues., Sept. 12, at his residence.  He was born Nov. 
13, 1969 in New Orleans, Louisiana to parents Wendell and Judy Breaux Cooley.  
Mark graduated from Hahnville High School, class of 1988.  He earned a Bachelor 
of Science degree in Economics from Louisiana State University.  His 
professional career took off once he joined "Verio" in Dallas where he worked 
in an internet support call center and was promoted to manager of the entire 
department in just two years.  Mark moved to Houston at the end of 2002 in 
order to join "VeriCenter", a web-hosting company, as project manager.  He was 
an avid mountain and road cyclist and has completed many a race, including the 
2003 and 2004 MS 150.  Another one of his favorite pastimes was restoring old 
cars and spending time in nature.  Mark was a wonderful and most generous 
husband, son, brother and friend and will be terribly missed. 

Mark is survived by his wife, Sheila Cooley; his parents, Wendell and Judy 
Cooley; and his brother, Luke Cooley.  

Interment was held at Hager Cemetery in De Quincy, Louisiana.  Memorials may be

Cortez, Douglas J.  Born March 11, 1942 in New Orleans,La., he died Thursday 
August 17, 2006, at Baton Rouge General in Baton Rouge, La. 

He was a native of Des Allemands and a resident of Tunica, La. and retired after 
28 years of service as a security guard at Angola State Prison. He was a member 
of Miracle Place Church. 

Visitation will be on Saturday August 19, 2006 from 8:30 a.m. until service time 
at 10:30 a.m. with Pastors Rip Rittell and Robert Taylor officiating. Interment 
will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park In Natchez, Ms. under the direction of 
Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday. 

He was preceded in death by his father William Joseph (Willie) Cortez; mother 
Celina Arceneaux Cortez; and brother Leroy Joseph Cortez.

Leonore Glaess "Lee" LeBlanc, 62, a resident of Lacey for 18 years, passed away 
into the arms of our Lord on Friday, July 2006 following a very long illness. 

Leonore was born on December 7, 1943 in Zwickau, Germany to Eugene and Emmy 
Glaess. She married Manfred John LeBlanc of Des Allemands, LA in Salzburg, 
Austria in May 1967. 

Sister-in-law of Betty Savoie, of Des Allemands, Carol Alvarez of Nine Mile 
Point, and Lutie "Lou" Verda of Luling, and Marvin LeBlanc of Des Allemands. 
Brother-in-law, Lester "Bobby" LeBlanc, of Des Allemands preceded her in death. 

Leonore became fascinated with numbers and office work early in her life and 
spent most of her working years as an office clerk, bank clerk, and leasing 
consultant. 

She became a naturalized American citizen in 1970 in New Orleans, LA. 

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Manfred LeBlanc, two daughters: 
Christine Davis of Tumwater, WA., Yvonne Reid of Winchester, CA. and by her son, 
Michael Leblanc, and two grandchildren. Her sister, Ingrid Mueller, of 
Pang/Rosenheim, Germany, preceded her.

In death Leonore cared greatly about her family and country. She was a 
compassionate, devoted wife and mother who loved numbers, bookkeeping, nature, 
animals, and travel. She enjoyed the many opportunities Army life offered in 
moving and seeing different cultures. She especially enjoyed living in Hawaii. 

Comedy was a big part of her life and she always had a smile, a positive 
attitude, and something good to say about everything and everyone. Words cannot 
describe how much she will be missed. 

A private, family members only, memorial service was held at Woodlawn Memorial 
Funeral Services on Thursday, August 3rd, 2006.

Phyllis Songy Hingle, a beloved wife and mother, died at 4:35 p.m., Thursday, 
June 29, 2006. She was 72, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Destrehan. 

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Calvin Hingle; four daughters and 
sons-in-law, Lisa and Marshall Townsend, Jennifer and Bruce Robinson, Andrea and 
Shawn Fleming, and Pamela and Mark Hatley; two sons and a daughter-in-law, 
Stewart and Anna Hingle and Jeffrey Hingle; three sisters, Margaret S. Meyer, 
Sister Linda Songy and Sylvia S. Davis; a brother, Russell D. Songy; and 13 
grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob and Emily townsend, Nathan, Jull and Amy Fleming, 
Benjamin and Christopher Hatley and Kenneth and Lauren Hingle. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aubin and Philomene Stewart Songy; 
sisters, Jeanne Marie Songy and Annette S. Toomer; and a brother, Aubin A.

She was a parishioner of St. George Catholic Church and a 1951 graduate of 
Hahnville High School.

George Arthur Helmick. Devoted husband, father, brother, and son, George Helmick 
was called to our Lord May 22, 2006 at his home in Eupora, Ms. 

He was born in Charleston, Wv., January 18, 1933 where he grew up. He served in 
the United States Air Force then began a long career with Union Carbide 
Corporation as an instrumentation controls supervisor. His career brought him to 
Louisiana in 1967. Following a one-year assignment in Saudi Arabia, he retired 
in 1985 and permanently moved to his country place outside of his adopted 
hometown of Eupora, MS. 

He was a gifted and fiercely competitive athlete, an avid reader, accomplished 
writer, and immensely enjoyed the art of conversation, debate and story telling 
with his many dear friends. 

He is survived and will be sorely missed by his loving wife, Jacqueline Cox 
Helmick; daughters Amy Helmick Matherne of Monroe, La., and Georgeanna Helmick 
Brandt of Gretna LA., sons Randall Helmick of Baton Rouge, La., Thomas Helmick 
of Zachary, La., and Timothy Helmick of Gretna La.; sisters Frances Helmick

He was the husband of the late Inez Simon DeJean by first marriage and the late

Burial was held at La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Gus J. Champagne, age 
97, who died at 9:30 p.m., Friday, April 28, 2006 at his daughter's residence in 
Lafayette. 

Interment is in the St. Charles Cemetery in Luling, La. Graveside services were 
held on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at 1 p.m. Rev. Monsignor Charles Mallet was the 
celebrant of the Funeral Mass and conducted the Funeral Services. 

Survivors include his wife of thirty two years, Audrey O. Champagne of Lafayette 
and her five children; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Achille Charles and Adele Kinler 
Champagne; two sisters, and his first wife, May Harris Champagne. 

A native of Luling, La, and a resident of Lafayette since July of 2003. Mr. 
Champagne was veteran of military service, having served in the United States 
Army during WWII in the Army Corp of Engineers. Mr. Champagne was a former 
employee of the American Oil Company. He retired from the St. Charles Hospital 
as an administrator in 1974. He was a former Boy Scout leader and very active in 
and recieved many awards from the American Legion, VFW post #3750, Knights of 
Columbus, Council on Aging, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Rotary 
International, all being in St. Charles Parish. Mr. Champagne was an usher and 
parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Luling.

They would would like to extend special appreciation to Hospice of Acadiana for 
the kindness and care offered during his time of need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Emile Alphonso and Helen 
Littlejohn Alphonso Hopkins. 

He is survived by his wife Patricia Blanchard Alphonso; sons Irin, David, Eric 
and daughter Michelle A. Barrosse; siblings Henry, Charles, Lionel, Peter,

On Monday, the 27th day of March, John Polk, Sr., age 75, left this life for his 
eternal reward. 

He was born in Bogalusa, La, on July 10, 1930 and lived in Luling for the past 
46 years. 

Preceded in death by his parents, James Knox and Beluah Nobles Polk; sisters: 
Margie Snow and Helen Estes; brothers: JW Polk and Charles Ray Polk; survived by 
brother: Jimmy Polk. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 48 years Lena 
Pulizzano Polk, their sons Johnny and Jim Polk, daughter Patricia Polk Brou, 
son-in-law Robert Brou, daughter-in-law Aida Polk. Also survived by 
grandchildren: Jai Polk, Fernando Mattey, Robbie Brou, Allison Brou, and Phillip 
Brou. 

Retired from American Cyanamid after 38 years of employment. Life member and 
former President of the Louisiana Archaeological Society, Delta Chapter. 
Received an award in 2006 for appreciation and outstanding contributions to 
archaeology and service to the Louisiana Archaeological Society. He discovered a 
site, Orange Grove Plantation, which brought archaeology to students of St. 
Charles Parish and the surrounding parishes, every year during Archaeology week 
for 10 years. The site is currently located on the grounds of Cytec Chemical 
Facility. He was a member of the St. Charles Historical Society, River Road 
Historical Society, LA senior Olympics, Friends of St. Charles Parish Library, 
Knights of Columbus #9933, The atlatl Association, St. Charles Parish Computer 
Club, and belonged to the St. Charles Parish and Swinging Seniors Bowling 
Leagues. He is credited with bringing the Atlatl competition to the Senior 
Olympics for the River Parishes. 

Relatives and freinds of the family are invited to attend memorial services on 
Thursday, April 6, 2006 with visitation starting at 9 a.m. Followed by 11:00 a.m 
Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church, 151 Holy Family Lane, Luling, La.

killed September 11, 2001 at the Pentagon and is survived by his wife Beatrice 
and daughter Natalie and her husband Patrick and 2 daughters. 

Mrs. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Sidney G. Hymel, Jr., and one 
son Robert J. Hymel.

Yvonne Y. Carter, Cynthia Y. Smith, and Iris G. Young of Luling, Mydrel Y. 
Coleman, and Harriet T. Young of Boutte and Barbara Young of Tampa Bay, Florida; 
he is also survived by seven step children, and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Robinson Young; parents, Florida

He was a member of the Male Chorus and served on the Usher Board at Antioch

17, 2006 in Destrehan from SIDS. 

Age 4 months, born at Lakeside Hospital, Metairie, LA.

paternal grandparents Albert A. Duplantis and Jeannie Boudreaux Duplantis; 
maternal grandparents, Anthony Ferrara and Debbie Ferrara, Scott Stauffer and 
Linda Stauffer; paternal great grandmother, Ms. Dominick Paul Boudreaux;

Mary "Miss Mary" Allen passed away on Friday February 24, 2006 in Luling, LA. at 
the age of 70 years. 

Born in Redfield , South Dakota. Mary was a resident of St. Charles Parish for 
the past 41 years. 

Daughter of the late Laura Friese and Step daughter of Eldeen Friese. Devoted 
and loving mother and mother-in-law of Dean Allen, Daniel and Stacy Allen, 
Sherie and James Morgan, Christina and Brian Triche, John and Helena Ford, 
Micheal and Celeste Ford. Loving sister of Peggy, Dwight, and Alice. Also 
survived by 13 grandchildren, Mary Catherine, Sophia, Ginger, Daniel, Jerry Jr., 
Jessica, Travis, Brianna, Aaron, Craig, Sarah, Ryan, Mikey, and 4 great grand 
children, Zoe, Madeline, Blaze, and Maya. And a host of neices, nephews, and

Alvin D. "Preacher" Madere was called to eternal life on Saturday, February 11
2006 after a long and courageous battle with heart disease. Age 74 years.

Loving husband of Joyce Boudreaux Madere of fifty years. Devoted father and 
father in law to Alvin David Madere, Jr (Pam), Paula Madere Kinler (Brian) and 
Lisa Madere Guy (Joel). Most beloved and treasured grandfather, "PaPa", of Erica 
Gabrielle Kinler and Joel Michael Guy, Jr. Dedicated grandpa of the heart to 
Corey Richards Weeks of Luling, Chadise White Frank and her three children, 
Michelle Guy Dennison and her two sons, and Angela Guy, all of Tennessee. 

Preceded in death by parents, James Farrell Madere and Julie Gaubert Madere of 
Hahnville; cherished parents-in-law, Lawrence and Lelia Boudreaux of Westwego; 
sister, Billie Madere Horn, in laws Wilson Simoneaux, Marcello and Audrey 
Velgaro, LJ Broudreaux, Jr., Nolan Savoy, Barbara Madere, and God-daughter, 
Peggy Madere Honnall.

Survived by siblings, James Farrell Madere Jr. (Isabel), Fred Madere (Dolores), 
Louis Donald Madere, Dolores Madere Guillot, and Russull Madere (Nadine). In 
laws Rita Simoneaux, Theresa Savoy, Dudley Boudreaux (Lydia), and Dolores Sauls,

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years "Hyp" LeBlanc;

Gabriel Michael Brens.

LeBlanc Jr. and Melissa LeBlanc; great grandchildren, Kristen, Lorrie, Victoria,

She was a member of the Norco Homemakers Club, a charter member and several 
times "Woman of the Year" of the Bonnet Carre Garden Club. She loved her family, 
gardening, painting, and fishing. She and Hyp are together again.

Charles W. Campbell, 79, of Stephens, Arkansas, formerly of Luling, LA. died 
Monday, January 16, 2006. 

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Camden, Arkansas. Mr. 
Campbell was retired from Union Carbide at Taft, Louisiana and was the owner of 
the Huddle House Restaurant in Luling. He was a former member of the St. Charles 
Parish Rotary Club and was an Air Force Veteran. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles H and Mabel Lockridge Campbell, 
sister, Juanita Poindexter, of Stephens, and brother, Travis Campbell, of 
Houston. 

He is survived by his wife Melissa Campbell of Stephens, daughters, Susan 
Humphries of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Charlotte Anne Hinkle of Hammond, LA.; 
stepson, Ronnie Ritter, Jr. of Coral Springs, FL, and stepdaughters, Kathy 
Ritter of Lawton, OK, and Laureen Kastanos of Elk Grove, CA.; twelve
